One of the best ways to raise standards is to recognise and reward those organisations, teams and individuals who lead their field and to encourage others to follow their good example. So the APEA is once again inviting our members, from every discipline, to take part in the 2015 Awards Programme.

This award recognises an outstanding individual who has dedicated his/her career to the industry, registering extraordinary achievements and demonstrating consistent excellence along the way.

The APEA Milestone Award
This award recognises the organisation, company or product which has reached the most impressive and significant business or operational milestone in the past year. The milestone itself could relate to the number of units of a particular product sold, a milestone number of people employed, number of hours without incident or injury or simply reaching a milestone number of years in business. This award will be conferred on the organisation with the best managed Health and Safety programme or system, helping to maintain the health and safety of those engaged with the industry.

The APEA Outstanding Employee Contribution in 2014/2015 Award is a way for managers and supervisors within the industry to recognise the individuals who have shown the greatest dedication and drive to improve standards, practices, safety, efficiency, growth or the working lives of those around them. The APEA Fuelling Installation of the Year Award, sponsored by Suresite
This award will recognise the best retail, commercial or industrial fuelling installation (new build or major rebuild) that has been commissioned during the past 12 months. Judges will score entries on the site’s uniqueness, its impact on those that use it and the industry as a whole as well as factoring in the quality and excellence of the site design, construction and on-going operation. Owners, designers, project managers and contractors may submit individual or joint entries conveying why their entry deserves to be recognised as the best of the best.

Innovation is what drives the industry forward, especially during times of economic restraint. The APEA Innovation Award will be presented for the innovation which will have the most significant impact on the industry sector.

Information about the Entry Process

1.    International entries are welcomed, but the judges will look for them having a significant impact within Europe.

2.    Where an activity/programme/initiative is entered for more than one award, then a separate entry form must be submitted for each award with the written submission focusing on its merits in relation to that award category.

3.    Entrants should provide concise information by completing all sections in the entry form. They may also supplement their entry with supporting documentation.

4.    The judges reserve the right to reallocate an entry into the most appropriate category

5.    All information relating to the results will be embargoed for publication until after the Awards Presentation Dinner.

6.    The closing date for receipt of entries is 6pm on 4th September 2015.

7.    If you are not entering via the online awards entry form on the APEA website at www.apea.org.uk, completed forms should be emailed to admin@apea.org.uk  by the deadline of 6pm on 4th September 2015. You will receive a confirmation of receipt shortly afterwards.

8.    All entries including supporting documentation must be submitted in electronic format (as email attachments) and accurately referenced.

9.    The short listed entries will be published in the Awards Event Guide.

10.   Those short listed will be expected to attend the Awards dinner.

11.   Winners will be announced at the APEA 2015 Awards Dinner ceremony on the 5th November at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

12.   The Awards winners will be showcased in the APEA Bulletin following the Awards dinner.

13.   The judging panel will comprise industry leaders from a cross section of the UK petroleum retailing industry and will include representatives from the sponsoring organisations.

15.   The judges’ decision shall be absolutely final and binding on all entrants and no discussion or correspondence relating to their decision will be entered into.

Judging Criteria

Environmental Protection and Improvement and Health & Safety Performance Awards:

In selecting the winners the judges will identify the programme or initiative in each category that demonstrates the greatest beneficial impact on the organisation, its customers, the UK petroleum retailing industry and, where relevant, the wider community. In doing so they will ascertain the following:

  1. Does the submission and any supporting documentation fully explain and describe the activity, programme or initiative (including graphics, photographs and presentation material).
  2. Has the applicant provided a clear explanation of the problem or condition and how the award entry has solved or addressed it.
  3. Has the applicant provided sufficient evidence that the impact of the activity/programme/initiative has been significant, extensive and beneficial to the organisation, its staff, its customers within the petroleum retailing industry and the wider community. Consider the contribution of any testimonials included.
  4. Has a significant portion of the activity and the benefits generated taken place in the 24 months to June 2015*, although the judges accept that many programmes or products can have a longer life span.
  5. Is the applicant (organisation or individual) the primary creator, developer or contributor of the activity, programme or initiative.
  6. Has the applicant described the uniqueness and originality of their submission which sets it apart from the other submissions.
  7. Has the applicant demonstrated excellence and commitment to continuous improvement in the undertaking of their activity, programme or initiative?

 

Lifetime Achievement Award:

In selecting the winners the judges will identify the programme or initiative in each category that demonstrates the greatest beneficial impact on the organisation, its customers, the UK petroleum retailing industry and, where relevant, the wider community. In doing so they will ascertain the following:

  1. Does the submission and any supporting documentation fully explain and describe the activity of the individual over a substantive period of time within the downstream petroleum industry?
  2. Has the applicant provided a clear explanation of the qualities of the person?
  3. Has the applicant provided sufficient evidence that the impact of the person has been significant, extensive and beneficial to the petroleum retailing industry and the wider community. The contribution of any testimonials included will be considered.
  4. Has a significant portion of the persons work activity been within and improving the industry?
  5. Has the person demonstrated excellence and commitment to continuous improvement in their working life?



Innovation Award:

In selecting the winner the judges will identify the Innovation that has or is likely to deliver the greatest impact on the organisation, its customers, the UK petroleum retailing industry and, where relevant, the wider community. In doing so they will ascertain the following:

  1. Does the submission and any supporting documentation fully explain and describe the innovation (include graphics, photographs, presentation and sales material).
  2. Has the applicant provided a clear explanation of the problem or condition that the innovation seeks to address and how it has solved or addressed it.
  3. Has the applicant provided sufficient evidence of:
    a. the impact that the innovation has had
    b. has it been or is it likely to be significant, beneficial or changing to the organisation or industry.  It would be helpful to illustrate this through testimonials.
  4. Has a significant portion of the activity and the benefits generated taken place in the 24 months to June 2015*, although the judges accept that many innovations will have a longer life span.
  5. Is the applicant (organisation or individual) the primary creator, developer or contributor of this innovation.
  6. Has the applicant described the uniqueness and originality of their submission which sets it apart from the other submissions.

 

Fuelling Installation of the Year Award:

  1. Does the submission and any supporting documentation fully explain and describe the Fuelling Installation and its merits (including graphics, photographs and presentation material).
  2. Has the applicant described the uniqueness and originality of their submission which sets it apart from the other submissions and is this is backed up by supporting evidence?
  3. Has the applicant provided sufficient evidence that the impact of the person/activity/programme/initiative has been significant, extensive and beneficial to those involved, be it the organisation, its staff, its customers, the petroleum retailing industry or the wider community as a whole. Consider the contribution of any support evidence included such as testimonials, articles, statistics etc.
  4. Does the entry demonstrate a commitment to quality and excellence during the design and build of this installation as well as showing an outstanding operational experience for the end-user? Is there sufficient evidence to support this?
  5. Has a significant portion of the activity taken place in the 24 months to June 2015. (The judges accept that many programmes have a long design, build and commissioning period and this will be taken into account during judging).
  6. Is the applicant (organisation(s) or individual) the primary creator, developer or contributor of the activity, programme or initiatie.

 

The Milestone Award:

In selecting the winners the judges will use the following judging criteria to assess entries:

  1.  Does the submission and any supporting documentation fully explain and describe the Milestone that has been reached and that it is significant to the industry in general
  2. Has the applicant described the historical context of the milestone which has been reached?
  3. Has the applicant provided sufficient evidence that the impact of the organisation/person/activity/programme/initiative which has reached this milestone has been significant, extensive and beneficial to those involved, be it the organisation, its staff, its customers, the petroleum retailing industry or the wider community as a whole.
  4. Does the entry demonstrate a commitment to quality, innovation and continuous improvement of the product/service/organisation in question whilst reaching this milestone
  5. Was the milestone in question reached in the 12 months to June 2015. (The judges accept that many programmes have a long design, build and commissioning period and this will be taken into account during judging).
  6. Are all of the above criteria backed up by strong supporting evidence such as testimonials, articles etc.

 

Oustanding Employee Award

In selecting the winners the judges will use the following judging criteria to assess entries:

  1.  Does the submission and any supporting documentation single out an individual person worthy of this accolade?
  2. Has the applicant proven the individual in question stands out from the crowd and has done throughout their career, or is remarkable because of their young age?
  3. Has the applicant provided sufficient evidence that the impact of the individual has been significant on a professional level with reference to relevant criteria such as health and safety, learning, continuous improvement, innovation, efficiency, business development,  productivity, teamwork etc.
  4. Has the applicant provided sufficient evidence that the impact of the individual has been significant on a personal level to those who he comes into contact with during his working day
  5. Has this persons impact been noticeable in the 12 months leading up to June 2015
  6. Are all of the above criteria backed up by strong supporting evidence such as client and co-worker testimonials, statistics etc.

Judging Process

Judges will also consider separate criteria for each of the Award categories. Please click on the ‘judging crtieria’ tab for more information.

Initial scoring is completed by each judge for each award after the deadline of 4th September 2015. The scores are collated and a general judging meeting will be held in September to discuss the entries and choose one winner and runners up from each category.

The shortlisted companies up will be contacted by the APEA to inform them of the result. Entrants not included on this list will also be contacted to inform them that they have not been shortlisted.
